About

Hi, I’m Utari! Deep down I kinda knew that I want to make a living from art, at my own pace, and I found ceramic is the craft that hooks me the most. The idea of making something from scratch, with raw materials, by my own hand is always fascinating to me.

At first, pottery is a hobby that I use as a distraction from my day-to-day office work. I learned pottery at the end of 2019 by attending several workshops and private classes, as well as practicing by myself in my tiny room. As time went on, I started to do it more seriously by making and selling my pieces on a regular basis.

Style-wise, Pottaruu focuses on handmade pottery with handbuilt technique, so the result is more personal and unique - perfectly imperfect with different illustrations and designs in each piece. Thus, each item is only sold in limited quantities. The ceramic is built with Indonesian clay- shaped, slowly dried, bisque fired, hand-painted, and then glaze fired. The process to make a piece will take at least one month between the dropping of each batch.

Personally, my creativity is a result of the constant boredom I have to face daily as I get bored easily with one particular style or design. I am deeply interested in so many things. Usually, inspiration comes from; movies, songs, nature, women empowerment and bodies, anime, mundane life, memes, 90’ stuff, or just some silly random ideas crossing my mind (daydreamer alert, lol).

Currently, I reside in Bali, Indonesia. You can always find me in my little garage studio doing the works of clay, creating pieces that hopefully can beat your boredom too or even better bring more happiness to your daily! You can also follow @Pottaruu on instagram to get the update of each batch’s dropping and for some behind the scenes contents. :)
